Clubs Helping With Voles Survey

As announced in our last newsletter, we have been invited to help our local wildlife trust with an important survey of water voles populations. The iconic species has suffered a catastrophic decline in the last few decades due to loss of habitat and the influx of non-native American mink.

The project involves surveying land areas around water courses across the county to establish where there are water voles at the moment. There are fifteen clubs identified as having lakes, ponds, streams, etc. where voles have been sighted in the past or may be present.

Following the surveys, the project will give information and advice to the clubs about the things they can do to help this species.
