Invitation to Nature Links Seminar – Biodiversity in Sussex Golf
Brighton and Hove Golf Club
15 May 2025, 9am – 4pm
Brighton and Hove Golf Club is pleased to invite you to our Nature Links seminar on action being taken by Sussex golf clubs to support nature and help address the biodiversity crisis.
This event follows popular Nature Links events previously hosted by Lewes GC and Pyecombe GC, bringing clubs together to discuss best practice and lessons learnt, and to explore the business opportunities and support available to clubs in this area.
These discussions started in the context of the ambitious Weald To Waves 100-mile wildlife corridor that is being established along the Adur, Arun and Ouse rivers. We are really pleased that the new project lead for Weald to Waves will be attending the seminar in May to update us on progress and discuss next steps.
Interest in the nature recovery work of local golf clubs is really growing, and we are happy to open Nature Links III up to clubs from across Sussex. The nature restoration strategy or “Local Nature Recovery Strategy” for Sussex is currently in the process of being developed. We are therefore very pleased that a leading member of the Sussex Nature Recovery team responsible for drawing up the nature recovery strategies for East and West Sussex will be coming to our seminar to share the plans. We will have the opportunity to showcase the difference being made by golf clubs in the county and discuss how we can work together for the sector and for nature.
We are delighted to say that we will also be joined by the head of another very exciting Sussex initiative, Sussex Bay, a major marine and coastal restoration initiative extending 100 miles from Selsey to Camber Sands, which will no doubt be of great interest to all and particularly to our delegates from links clubs.
Feedback from previous Nature Links events shows that participants appreciate the opportunity to discuss and learn from colleagues from other clubs. We are therefore planning to have a series of short masterclasses so we can hear from colleagues from other clubs on the specifics of the nature action they have taken and what they have learnt.
We particularly encourage Club Secretaries and General Managers to attend, along with their Greenkeepers, so that senior management can explore how biodiversity action can support the bottom line, improve clubs’ resilience and player experience, and make a very real difference for nature.
We look forward to welcoming delegates to Brighton and Hove Golf Club on 15 May for what we hope will be a very useful day of discussion and planning. We are happy to offer club reps a courtesy 9-hole round of golf. There is no cost to attend.
Please RSVP by contacting Caroline Croft at caroline.croft@southwoodfoundation.org , who is
helping organise this event.
We look forward to hearing from you.
With best wishes,
Lindsay Stoner
