Professor Jacob Tompkins, who spoke to us in 2024, has kindly accepted our invitation to speak once again, on the challenges golf clubs face relating to water sourcing. He has over 30 years experience in the water sector and has been heavily involved in water policy at UK and European level.
Jim Oswald, Energy Consultant and Golfer, is closely involved at Cosby GC, advising on innovations in energy generation and conservation as part of the club’s Ecology and Sustainability Roadmap. He will be presenting on his work and challenges on the course.
Dr Hannah Sellers, Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust Lead Ecologist in a Nature Recovery Pilot Project partnership between LRWT and 13 member golf clubs. This project is the first of its kind in the UK. Hannah will lead on a discussion with reps/colleagues from the clubs involved, and focus on the work done so far and plans for the partnership going forward.
James Hutchinson, Sustainability Executive, BIGGA. James started his career greenkeeping, gained a BSc (hons) in turf science, and has advised on courses from St Andrews to Windsor Castle and abroad. James will speak on the importance of
woodlands, their management and why there are so many ancient trees on UK golf courses. A programme of the day is attached. Anyone with an interest is welcome. As with last year’s event, there will be a charge per person, which has increased slightly to £15 per person, to help support the cost of the buffet lunch, refreshments and room hire.
To register for the conference, please email
janethb@hotmail.co.uk with your name, golf club, number of attendees and payment details will be forwarded.
