The Greenergolf Foundation

The Leicestershire and Rutland Greener Golf Steering Group met on Wednesday 13th September at Glen Gorse Golf Club. Twenty people attended this, the 8th meeting of the group, taking place two years since the first get-together. There were representatives from twelve county golf clubs, with apologies from several more.

There were presentations by Ian Woolley, of The Bigger Ball, and Tom Bailey, from Utilityworks, new commercial partners of the Greenergolf website. Ben Devine, newly-appointed Nature Recovery Manager of the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, gave a talk about his role and hopes for collaboration with local golf clubs. Lucie Hoelmer, from Leicestershire C.C., talked about the county’s plans for a Local Nature Recovery Strategy. We are hoping that the council and local golf clubs can collaborate more in the future on environmental projects.

After months of discussions and consultations, the GREENERGOLF LTD company, is to convert to  Charitable Incorporated Organisation (C.I.O.).  This will, in effect, mean that the company becomes a charity, and the intention is that it be called THE GREENERGOLF FOUNDATION.

The foundation will continue to develop the greenergolf.co.uk website, and will be the organising body for sustainable golf events and activities that have been run up to now by the Leics and Rutland group. The current Steering Group will continue in existence as a consultative forum, the stakeholders of the foundation.

There will be far more on this development, and the aspirations of the foundation in the coming months.

The meeting concluded with clear support for this development, and with firm ideas for a WINTER CONFERENCE in 2024.  The main topic for the conference will be WATER, and the challenges that face golf clubs over water in the future.
