WOOD YOU BELIEVE IT?

 UP-CYCLE PROJECT

 Redbourn Golf Club

After one of our bi-yearly tree audits, several trees were identified as dangerous and therefore needed to be felled. This, and the collection of several old pallets, had left us with wood in need of re-purposing. As a result, the Redbourn Golf Club’s maintenance crew set out to find the best way to utilize the remaining wood.

To begin with, an obvious necessity was the creation of split waste bins to place throughout the two courses and the areas surrounding the clubhouse. As we all work to reduce landfill waste, more understanding and simplicity of proper waste separation is essential. We have seen an overall waste reduction of 1,700kg from January to July 2023 in comparison to the same time in 2024.

The maintenance team have also been busy creating a beautiful, bespoke, WELCOME sign, a log wall and a peaceful sitting area for staff to enjoy fresh air on their breaks. In addition, we have several log benches and a beautiful mushroom stool. The practice areas around the clubhouse are now lined with handmade flower beds as well as handmade window boxes bringing colour and life to the area.

Finally, after the sad passing of one of our beloved members, a memorial garden was erected in his honour.

All of which add a more caring and personalised feel to the club, whilst also re-purposing otherwise wasted raw materials. This project has also seen the creation of beautiful bug hotels, varying in size allowing for many safe havens for bugs and wildlife. Now that winter is upon us, the team has seen the creation of three beautiful reindeers to add to the collection.
