The Woodland Cup: A New Trophy Highlighting Sustainability at Nevill Golf Club

September 2024

Nevill Golf Club in Tunbridge Wells is an example of a club taking sustainability seriously and doing it in innovative ways.

The Woodland Cup is a new trophy competition there, now in its second year. The competition is organised by the Nevill’s Sustainability Sub-Committee and is aimed at promoting sustainability to members. Organiser Mark Brotherton writes: “The competition is a cross-country format, over 12 holes, to showcase the more remote parts of the course to participants – a fun team competition with a serious message”.

The trophy is carved out of sustainably-sourced wood and will be presented at the club’s annual prize-giving event. As well as a cash prize, the winners will receive jars of honey from Nevill’s bee colony. Surplus funds from the competition will go towards creating more bio-diverse habitats around the course.

The Nevill has achieved the GEO Certification in 2024.
