Greener Golf Beedles Lake Conference

8th February 2023

The Leicestershire and Rutland Greener Golf Group held their Winter Conference at Beedles Lake on Wednesday, 8th February.

Nineteen golf clubs, fourteen of them from Leicestershire and Rutland, were represented or had members at the event. Five others came, most from the West Midlands, but the largest contingent of all, from Bedfordshire GC. For five of the Leicestershire clubs, it was the first Greener Golf group event that they had attended: these were Rothley, Forest Hill, Hinckley, Kilworth Springs and Ullesthorpe. A total of 65 people attended the event, double the number at the group’s previous conferences last winter.

Several organisations and wildlife agencies were also present, including the Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust, EMEC Ecology, Butterfly Conservation and 4DS Drone Services.

The speakers, Cirhan Truswell (Climate Change Manager at the National Grid), and Keith Duff (Environment Consultant) were excellent – listened to with a huge degree of respect and attention. There was animated and absorbed conversation going on throughout the setting during discussion times, and interesting, relevant questions.

Feedback afterwards was excellent, and the Greener Golf group will be looking forward to its next events this year – a site visit to Greetham Valley, and a seminar or webinar on how clubs may be able to access government funding for biodiversity projects.
