ULLESTHORPE CONFERENCE

8TH FEBRUARY 2024

The GreenerGolf Network’s third Spring Conference took place at Ullesthorpe Court Golf Club on 8th February 2024. Dare we say it…? Yes – it was our biggest and best yet, and will be quite hard to beat next year.

70 people attended and there were 23 golf clubs represented, 16 of them from our ‘home base’, Leicestershire and Rutland. A huge thanks to Calum Cameron, member at Market Harborough GC, who sponsored the event.

The feedback we received was outstanding, and unanimous in praising the excellence of our four guest speakers.

Tony Hanson (Environment Solutions International) and Professor Jacob Tompkins(Ecoprod) were superb on helping us understand the challenges facing golf clubs with regard to WATER: informative, challenging, and inspirational.

Owen James (England Golf) updated everyone on EG’s sustainability drive, challenging clubs, in particular, on the issue of GOVERNANCE for sustainability

Mat Carter (CEO of our local L and R Wildlife Trust) was able to announce two major initiatives for future collaboration between Leicestershire and Rutland clubs: a new form of AFFILIATION membership for individual clubs; and a planned JOINT FUNDING BID to central government and/or the Lottery for a group of golf clubs to join hands in a multi-year venture to help with nature’s recovery. (Further information on these two initiatives will be on the website in due course…)

The PRESENTATIONS of all of our speakers are now on the website – go to the RESOURCES tab on the Home Page and click on LIBRARY from the drop-down menu. Tony and Jacob have made it clear that they are happy to be contacted for further advice and help.

Our thanks to Dave Evrall and Ullesthorpe Court for their generous terms, to the staff there for their excellent support and service, and to all of you who attended for an inspirational day.
