The GreenerGolf Network’s third Spring Conference took place at Ullesthorpe Court Golf Club on 8th February 2024. Dare we say it…? Yes – it was our biggest and best yet, and will be quite hard to beat next year.

The Worm Predicament

Most people are aware of the remarkably good job earthworms do as natural soil engineers. However the casts left by two species of earthworm can be a problem for some green keepers of golf courses, bowling greens, cricket grounds and the like. This is particularly so in areas where the soil is a heavy clay.

The Golf Course 2030 programme is the flagship sustainability project of the R and A (Royal and Ancient) itself. The aim has been to conduct research, and present high-level analysis of the factors affecting the long-term future of golf, and golf courses themselves.

BIODIVERSITY NET GAIN (BNG) IS COMING

On January 24th DEFRA (the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) has finally released and laid before parliament the statutory BNG metric tool to be used by landowners and developers.
